FAQs

What do students think of the courses?

I receive a lot of wonderful feedback. Students particularly enjoy the immediate practical application of various techniques, the well-structured pedagogical progression, the clarity of the explanations, and the supportive nature of my feedback.

You can read verified reviews on the "Watercolours Basics" and "Colours & Landscapes" pages.

What techniques will I learn?

In the Watercolour Basics course, which is designed for beginners, you will learn how to control water flow, handle your brush, and master wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and even dry-on-dry techniques. You will also explore colour bleeds, negative painting, using masking fluid, and creating textures with backruns and salt.

In the Colours & Landscapes course, aimed at intermediate painters, the focus is on colour theory and creating balanced palettes. We also cover photo interpretation and the core rules of composition, such as the rule of thirds, atmospheric and linear perspective, light and shadow, and how to simplify a scene—all based on photographic references.

What supplies do I need?

Each course is designed so that you can follow along with your own supplies. If you don't have any yet, you can check out my recommendations for paints, brushes, and paper.
In both courses, I use my signature Sennelier palette (with a few extra colours) and Princeton Neptune brushes.

One important note: 100% cotton paper is essential for achieving beautiful results in watercolour. I explain this in more detail in my recommendations article.

I’ve painted before but never taken a course; what do you recommend?

If you find certain projects tricky, struggle to follow tutorials, or have never practiced specific foundational techniques, I recommend enrolling in Watercolour Basics. Each technique is explained and practiced before being applied to one or more minimalist
landscapes.

If you are comfortable with the basic techniques (as described above), I suggest the Colours & Landscapes course, which focuses more on the creative process than just technical execution.

The goal of the Basics course is to improve your technical skill, while the intermediate course aims to give you the independence to create your own colour schemes and paint from photos without needing a tutorial.

How do I access the courses?
